Glamping in France: the 5 most beautiful places to go

What is glamping?

The concept of glamping, a contraction of the English words glamorous and camping, emerged in the United States some fifteen years ago. Far from classic camping, which despite its many advantages remains unthinkable for some travellers, glamping offers a much more luxurious approach with comfortable, well-equipped and sometimes unusual accommodation, as well as top-of-the-range facilities.

Glamping is a real experience, a way to reconnect with nature without sacrificing comfort. Glamping is not limited to a night in a luxury tent, but can be done in a yurt, a lodge, a mobile home, floating accommodation and even a converted van.

A luxury hut at the Huttopia in Wattwiller (Alsace)

The pioneer of glamping in France offers different types of accommodation throughout the country. But we chose to focus on the Huttopia in Wattwiller, located in the heart ofAlsace, a stone's throw from the wine route.

For a truly exotic stay, you can choose to sleep in one of the site's Cahuttes. A wooden hut with all the comforts (electricity, sanitary facilities, kitchen, dining area, wood-burning stove) overhung by a tent with a sleeping area of two bedrooms. The Cahuttes are located close to nature and are hidden among the trees. The site also has chalets, tents, mobile homes and even trailers.

A luxury tent at Camping Moulin de Chaules

Head for theAuvergne and the Moulin de Chaules family campsite. The site has 56 pitches spread over 3 hectares of greenery on the banks of the Le Ressègue stream.

Would you like to enjoy a unique experience in a luxury tent? The campsite offers a very nice "Bell Glamping Tent" located on a large wooden terrace of 35 m2 with an outdoor kitchen. The mountain life is breathtaking!

A trip in a luxury van with Nomadism

Would you like to try out a luxury version of camping in a van? This is the original proposal of Nomadism, the first premium nomadic boutique hotel.

In addition to luxurious, self-contained 4x4 Mercedes vans with all the comforts of home (excellent quality bedding, shower with hot water, wifi, video projector, air conditioning, etc.), Nomadism offers new vans for 2 people, whose design and layout have been custom-made in the workshops of French artisans. You are then free to go wherever you want for a road trip in France, although Nomadism has also designed themed itineraries throughout France.

A tree house overlooking the Saône

For all you Robinson wannabes, here's a glamping experience you won't soon forget. Head for Caluire-et-Cuire, 15 kilometres from Lyon, for a unique stay in a sublime tree house perched 6 metres high with an exceptional view over the Saône.

Inside, everything has been thought of in the smallest details and the hut offers all the comfort with a kitchenette, dry toilets and very comfortable bedding. And every morning, breakfast appears as if by magic, suspended from a rope in a pretty basket. Lyon Country House will also soon offer a Canadian tent in the heart of the woods.

A yurt in Brittany

One of the pleasures of glamping is to discover unusual accommodation immersed in nature. The Domaine du Treuscoat, in the heart of Brittany, offers 63 hectares of tree houses as well as luxurious and well-appointed yurts. Travellers can even enjoy a Nordic bath or a sauna as an option...true luxury!
