Croissy-sur-Seine, whose inhabitants are called Croissillons, is a commune in France, located in the Yvelines department, in the Île-de-France region. It is located in the north-eastern part of the Yvelines department, about eleven kilometres west of Paris, about ten kilometres north of Versailles, the prefecture of the department, and six kilometres south-east of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, which is the sub-prefecture. In terms of topography, Croissy-sur-Seine is a riverside commune located in a loop of the Seine, in the convexity of the meander, on the right bank of the river. The commune is partially located in a flood zone.

The municipal territory extends over alluvial sediments, without any marked relief, ranging from 35 to 30 metres in altitude from the north-east to the south-west. Three quarters of the area is urbanised, including the upstream part of the island of La Chaussée. The five neighbouring communes located on the left bank of the Seine are : Chatou to the north, Rueil-Malmaison, Bougival to the south, Louveciennes and Le Port-Marly to the southwest. The communes of Le Vésinet and Le Pecq are to the north and north-west.

HYDROGRAPHY

Belonging to the Seine catchment area, the territory of Croissy-sur-Seine runs along the right bank of the river for about five kilometres, exposing the commune to the risk of flooding from the Seine in the southern fringe of the territory, along the Seine, over a width of about 200 to 300 metres. Within the framework of the "flood risk prevention plan" (PPRI) for the Seine and Oise valleys, the flood zones have been classified as brown, light red, blue and green.

  • The Carrot Festival The Carrot Festival: existing since the middle of the 19th century, the Carrot Festival is the traditional festival of Croissy, which is an ancestral tribute to the vegetable that once made the glory of this ancient market town, the festival takes place every year on the second weekend in September. On the programme: torchlight procession, fireworks, DJ evening, Saint-Fiacre mass, parade of floats, competition of unidentified rolling objects, large "beef and carrots" meal, associations' forum, open-air cinema, funfair...

  • The Romantic FestivalsThe Romantic Festivals: during these festivals, there are concerts, exhibitions, readings, master classes and shows based on the romantic musical and literary repertoire. Concerts and educational activities on period instruments. These festivals are organised every year in mid-October in the Saint-Léonard chapel.

  • The June FestivalsThese are celebrated in the open air, giving a foretaste of the holidays every year around 21 June. Firstly, the Music Festival which completely takes over the town centre, then, over the course of a weekend, a whole succession of events take place: a mini festival on the island, the Grenouillère festival with its musette ball atmosphere, canoeists, guinguette... etc.

Impressionist painting

In order to maintain the cultural heritage left by the Impressionists in the Yvelines, Croissy-sur-Seine, along with eight other communes along the Seine, created the label and structure "Pays des Impressionnistes" in 2002.

  • The Saint-Léonard churchThe church of Saint-Léonard: it is a building built in 1882, in a neo-Gothic style.

  • The private mansion of Louis XIII style It was built for the industrialist Ernest Goüin in 1869. The brother of his son-in-law and nephew of Émile Augier, the poet Émile Guiard, known as Dargil, lived there after him. The villa also belonged to the musician Jean-Michel Jarre and the actress Charlotte Rampling.

  • Villa DesmarestThis small castle was built in 1857 for Ernest Desmarest, lawyer, mayor of the 9th arrondissement of Paris and "protector" of artists. Its park housed a theatre built for his friends and clients: Céleste Mogador, the singer Pauline Viardot, the composers Gounod, Bizet... The property later belonged to Jules Goüin, regent of the Banque de France. It is located atNo. 10 on the bank of the meadow.

  • The house ofJoséphine de Beauharnais The house of Joséphine de Beauharnais: it was built between the 16th and 19th centuries and was listed by decree of 22 May 1974.

  • The former House of CharityBuilt in 1852, it was listed by decree on 7 February 1974.

  • The Château de CroissyDating from the 18th century, it was listed by decree on 18 July 1975. Restored, it now houses the Pavilion of Local History, as well as the Musée de la Grenouillère.
